About Minecraft Modding
Modding is short for Modifying. If you have ever changed the rules of a game to fit your own taste, then you have modded before. In Minecraft modding has only been truly accessible to professional computer programmers who have the skills to write complex code. That has changed! Our camp course makes Minecraft modding (i.e. coding) more accessible to everyone. We teach students as young as 10 years old how to mod Minecraft to look and feel the way they want it to look and feel, while learning a valuable life-long skill: coding.
This camp is for children ages 11 to 14.
A Few Details
What will kids take home?
Your children will create their own Minecraft Modding account that will give them access to a broad range of tools in order to create their own fireworks mods, lightning mods, as well as a wide range of building mods and schematics. In addition, your children have access to their own Learn To Mod account for a full year at the end of the camp. This subscription is a $30 value.
- Computer coding
- Critical thinking
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Sharing of ideas and resources
- Adapting to new challenges
Computer programmers continue to top the list of top earners in the professional fields. Schools today are not equipped to teach high level coding skills and this has created a huge demand for programmers that isn't likely to be filled anytime soon. Children who learn programming now will be in a position to land high paying jobs in the future.
We ask that campers have taken our Video Game Programming courses before signing up for Modding. If a camper has extensive experience with Scratch through school or clubs, that will suffice for the requirement. Campers who are new to coding will struggle with this course until they meet those requirements. Note the Modding Course is also intended for ages 11-14.
After taking our Minecraft Modding course we try to point children in the direction of learning other languages including our Web Building course, and eventually the series of Raspberry Pi courses offered through our sister company Young Makers Lab.
