About Build your Own Computer
Campers will assemble their own computer (which they will take home with them at the end of the week) including a screen, keyboard and mouse, and a Raspberry Pi board to act as its CPU.
After assembling the computer, campers will use the Python programming language to create their own games, and to expand their computer so it can interact with circuits they build themselves. Campers will learn the basics of interacting with other devices online so that they can code their computers to be part of the Internet of Things (IOT) and communicate with phones, tablets, and other connected devices.
By the end of the week, campers will have the experience and resources to continue creating with their new computer at home.
This camp is for children ages 9 to 11 & 12-14
A Few Details
What will kids take home?
Your campers will bring home a PiTop CEED computer, along with a bunch of accessories to expand its capabilities.
What's more is that your camper will bring home a much greater understanding of computer coding through Python, a great introductory coding language that developers all over the world have hailed as the best, most robust language for learning the structure of coding.
- Critical thinking
- Teamwork and collaboration
- Sharing of ideas and resources
- Adapting to new challenges
Programming is a highly technical endeavor but it doesn't have to be boring. Our instructors make learning object-oriented programming easy, fun, and intuitive. Since campers are bringing home their own computer, the motivation to learn and code in Python is imbedded and strong.
Campers should have had some experience in coding - Scratch, Code.org, & Hour of Code are great starting blocks.
